The Rev. Hanneman officiated. Burial was at Wyoming Cemetery. The Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Scott Collins, Elmer Petersen, Dale Petersen, James Lockwood, Harold Wurst and Freddie Pegorick. Mrs. Martensen, 84, died April 8 at Anamosa Community Hospital. She was born Feb. 3, 1905 in Jones County, the daughter of Frederick and Anna Ahrendsen Westphal. She graduated from Wyoming High School and attended Coe College where she received a teaching certificate. She taught in the Wyoming area and in rural schools for 10 years. She married Melvin Martensen on Jan. 7, 1932 at Rock Island, Ill. They farmed their entire married life in the Wyoming area. Following her husband's death in 1978, Mrs. Martensen continued to live on their farm near Wyoming. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and served as organist and treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Lutheran Church Women. Survivors include two sons, Vern of Springville and Dean of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Clair Westphal of Wyoming and one sister, Mrs. Irma Holden of Barrington, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
