Frederick William Martin the only son of Henry Harrison and Elizabeth Martin was born in Center Point, Iowa Aug. 16, 1877 and died in Cedar Rapids, IA on Dec 23, 1940 in St Luke's Methodist hospital where he had been a patient for fourteen weeks. He had been a sufferer of heart trouble for the past seven years. On Sept. 16 of this year he had the misfortune to fall and break his hip which resulted in his last illness. He had reached the age of 63 years, 4 months and 7 days. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and two sisters Mr. Fern Bolton and Mrs. Jessie Gramling. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs Clara Knight, Mrs Mary Kester and Mrs Cora Mahuran all of Center Point and several nephews and nieces. Fred was born on a farm near Center Point and lived there with is parents engaged in farming. In 1912 he came to Center Point living in the parental home until his father's death in 1925. Since that time he and his sister, Mrs Kester, have shared the home between them Fred never married. For about 30 years Fred had been a member of Vienna lodge # 142 in Center Point of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member for many years of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and served for a long time in the office of Noble Grand. He has many friends in the community who miss his kindly deeds and friendly talks. His friendly and kindly nature made him greatly enjoy this associations with numerous acquaintances.
