Funeral services were held at the Augustana Lutheran church in Genoa, Monday afternoon January 31, with Dr. C. O. Gulleen officiating. Mrs. Arvid Johnson served at the piano and a male quartette, consisting of George Ericson, Arvid Johnson, Clifford Larson and Lawrence Pearson rendered three hymns: "Come Ye Disconsolate", "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "The Lord My Shepherd Is". The pallbearers were Ed Groteluschen, Walter Groteluschen, Fred Larson, Frank LaBada, Lawrence Strang and Enfred Nelson. Interment was in Valley View cemetery. Mr. Fredolf Welin was born in Fremont, Nebr., January 24, 1876. When he was three years old his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Welin moved to Platte county where they homesteaded and became the charter members of the West Hill Methodist church. The family remained in the West Hill church until they transferred their membership to the Genoa Swedish Methodist church. Mr. Welin from early childhood experienced the difficulties of pioneer life. When he was old enough to begin school he was obliged to walk the distance of three miles in all kinds of weather to Spuit's school on the Looking Glass Creek. At the age of 27, September 30, 1903, Mr. Welin was married to Elna Jernberg of Monroe Township. To this union was born a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Bokelman who resides on the home place west of Columbus and has tenderly cared for her father during his lingering illness. Mrs. Welin preceded him in death October 14, 1940. The couple affiliated with the Augustana Lutheran church in 1923. Mr. Welin spent his last eight weeks as a patient at the Lutheran hospital in Columbus and peacefully passed away last Wednesday evening, January 26, 1949 at the age of 73 years and two days. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Louis Bokelman of Columbus, three grand children, Bernetta, Elaine and Aleta, two sisters, Mrs. George Thomazin of St. Edward, Mrs. Ova Nielson, Genoa, and one brother, Mr. Gilbert Welin of Upland California.
