Hagin, Paul Burke, Art Soderberg, Cal Palmer Olaf Stubsten, Irwin Rawstern, Roscoe Deardorrf, Art Hibbison, John Puffer, Henry Speirs, Dorcie Jenkins, Clark Parmely, Wilson Yost, Edwin Yost, Earl Kindred, and Lyle Gibson, Fred Sivertsen was born Sept. 5, 1888, at Ft. Thompson to Emmert and Emma Sivertsen. At an early age he moved with his parents to Como township in Hand county where he lived until he moved to Miller. In 1914 he filed a claim at Castle Rock where he established a homestead. Later on he attended a mechanical school in Omaha, Nebr. In 1917 he enlisted in the army and served as a corporal with the 89th Division during World War I, receiving an honorable discharge. Sivertsen worked in road construction after his discharge and in 1935 he was elected sheriff of Hand county serving two terms. Fred Sivertsen and Minnie Loken were married July 13, 1935, and to this union three children were born. After being a Minneapolis-Moline dealer he bought his own road construction business which he operated from 1932 until his retirement in 1964. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, civic and community affairs. He served for many years as a Hand County Commissioner and a member of the Miller School Board. Survivors include his wife, Minnie; two daughters: Mrs. Jack (Ramona) Ufen, and Mrs. Arnold (Bonnie) Johnson both of Miller; one son, David, who is currently in the military service; five sisters: Mrs. Jim (Martha) Puffer, Salem, Ore.; Mrs. Ed (Sena) Stanton, Miller; Mrs. M. B. (Clara) Irwin, Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Fred (Gertrude) Longnecher, Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. E. (Hilda) Fairchild, Tacoma, Wash.; and Mrs. Gordon (Vera) Love, Sioux Falls; and four granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.
