Mrs. Hamil, the wife of Donald Walker Hamil of Sterling, was active in numerous commu nity activities, most notably the Friends of the Public Library and PEO Chapter ES., both of which she helped organize, and the Republican Women's Organiza tion. She also sang in the First Presbyterian Church choir for many years, and for 35 years sang in the church's annual pre sentation of "Messiah." She was born Jan. 1, 1915, at Natoma, Kan., the daughter of the Rev. Otto K. and Frieda M. Mackensen Hensel She graduat ed from Sterling High School. She and Donald Hamil married Nov. 17, 1940, at Enid, OkIa. She worked 31/2 years as woman's page editor for the Sterling Farm Journal. Later, she contributed numerous articles and columns, and provided publicity writeups for Community Concerts. Mrs. Hamil was a delegate to the first two special Republican National Caucuses for Women in Washington, and served as first executive vice president of the Colorado Republican Women. She also was past president of the Sterling Junior Reviewers, and a member of Orpheus Music Club. She was a Sunday school teacher, youth and 4-H leader and volunteer for Red Cross, Cancer Society and other organizations. Survivors include her husband, Don; daughters Donna Talman and husband David of Worcester, Mass., Karen Browne and husband Jay of Marblehead, Mass., and Judi Carvajal and husband Fred of McKinney, Texas; sisters Irma Hollrah of Ceritos, Calif., Esther Erickson of Pasadena, Calif., and Ruth Kucera of Casper, Wyo.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Becker. Funeral services will conclude at the First Presbyterian Church Thursday. Memorials can be given in Mrs. Hamil's memory to the American Cancer Society. Chaney-Walters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
