She was born on May 9, 1922 at Burr, was baptized on June 4, 1922 at Hope Lutheran Church of Burr and was later confirmed on May 16, 1937. She attended Hauck District 65, Burr High School for two years and graduated from Sterling High School in 1939. She was born on May 9, 1922 at Burr, was baptized on June 4, 1922 at Hope Lutheran Church of Burr and was later confirmed on May 16, 1937. She attended Hauck District 65, Burr High School for two years and graduated from Sterling High School in 1939. She married Orvin Rathe on June 16, 1946 at Sterling and they lived near Madison before moving to Sterling in 1955. She worked in the boning department of Campbell Soup Company in Tecumseh for 11 years, retiring in 1990. She also drove a school bus for Sterling Public Schools for 18 years and worked part-time at Thies Café of Sterling. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling where she was a member of Ladies Aid and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #140. She was a former E.M.T. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing cards, quilting, Cardinal Baseball and Husker football. Survivors include four sons, Ronald Rathe and wife Joyce of Tecumseh, Larry Rathe and wife Donna of Sterling and Darrel Rathe of Basehor, KS, Daniel Rathe and wife Pat of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Welma Voelk of Shawnee, KS and Joan Hestermann of Lincoln; one brother, Merlin Ehmen and wife Colleen of Fairmont; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gesche Gesina “Sena” Flessner Ehmen; her husband Orvin; son, Mark Lee; daughter-in-law, Donna Rathe; three brothers, Dale , William and Ernest; four sisters, Matilda Truscott, Arline Zimmerman, Esther Fritsch and Darlene Ehmen; step-great-grandson, Mark Wenzel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling with Pastor Jason Wolter officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling. A memorial has been established to the Lutheran Laymen's League, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Immanuel Lutheran Church with the church elders in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday at the church. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Wednesday. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home. Zink-fox Funeral Home of Sterling in charge of arrangements.
