FRIEDRICH "FRED" BANGERT 1887-1944 - Local Rancher Dies of Cancer, Fred Bangert Lived West of Billings---- Fred Bangert, 57, Russian-born rancher, died [ April. 6, 1944] at 4 a.m. Thursday at his ranch home eight miles west of Billings, Death was the result of cancer of the throat. Mr. Bangert had been in poor health for the last two years and had undergone an operation last July at Rochester Minn. He was born Jan 25, 1887, at Dietel, Russia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bangert. In 1906 he came to Lincoln, Neb., and one- year later moved to Laurel. On March 8, 1909 Mr. Bangert and Katherine Fox were married in Laurel. They made their home near there until moving to the present ranch residence. Mr. Bangert was a member of St. Paul Trinity Lutheran Church in Billings. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p,m. at Settergren chapel with the Rev Theodore Stroble, pastor of the Laurel Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mountview Cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. Bangert, eight children, all living near Billings, Alex, and Mrs. [Lydia] Pete Hardt, Fred, Jr., Henry, George, Amelia, Lawrence and Katherine; two brothers, George Bangert of Laurel, and Jacob Bangert , Billings, route 2: two sisters Mrs. Frank Harding, of Tacoma, Wash., and Elizabeth Bangert, whose last known address was Wisconsin, and nine grandchildren. (Billings Gazette, Billings, MT, Friday April 7, 1944, pg.6) FRIEDRICH "FRED" BANGERT 1881-1944 - Funeral Services Held For Rancher Who Died Thursday----Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Settergren's Chapel for Fred Bangert, 57, rancher, who died Thursday [April 6, 1944] at his home eight miles west of Billings. The Rev, Theodore C. Strobel, pastor of the German Congregational Church at Laurel officiated. Hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied on the organ by Myrna McNeill. A burial quartet, composed of Jacob Bott, Jacob Frank , Alex O. Reiter, and the Rev. Mr. Strobel, sang "Gathering Home" and "Hold Me." Pallbearers were Mr. Bangert's five sons Alex, Fred Jr., Henry, George. and Lawrence, and his grandson, Pete Hardt. He is survived by his widow, his five sons, three daughters, two brothers, two sisters, and nine grandchildren. Burial was in Mountview Cemetery. (The Billings Gazette, Billings, MT.
