The congregation also sang, "Just As I Am" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home." The George Loupees cared for flowers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were: Robert Heitshusen, Grant Olson, Mervin and Virgil Schmidt. Active pallbearers were: Richard and Vergil Newkirk, Elmer Webert; Harold, Delmar and Robert Iburg. Born on a farm in York township, Iowa county, Sept. 3, 1900, he was the son of Earnest G. and Ann Schwarting Newkirk. He received his education in Immanuel Lutheran school and was a life-long member of the Immanuel church. He was married to Mina Louise Hudepohl in St. John's Lutheran church, Homestead, May 31, 1923. She preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1940. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Regina, who died Nov. 11, 1945. A farmer all his life he retired in 1965. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William (Berniece) Roemig, Williamsburg, and a sister, Mrs. Earl (Emma) Kuck, Van Horne.
