Description	:	Gail Jean Jones was born 1 November 1925 in Columbus, Nebraska, the youngest of the 4 children of William G. and Elizabeth (Jones) Jones. She attended Columbus City Schools. On March 3, 1949, she married Harvey Vernon Hilmer at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage and in December 1949, was confirmed in the same church of which she was a member the rest of her life. Read More	Gail Jean Jones was born 1 November 1925 in Columbus, Nebraska, the youngest of the 4 children of William G. and Elizabeth (Jones) Jones. She attended Columbus City Schools. On March 3, 1949, she married Harvey Vernon Hilmer at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage and in December 1949, was confirmed in the same church of which she was a member the rest of her life. The couple lived northwest of Columbus all of their married life (45 years) where Harvey was a farmer and Gail cared for the home and children. Their first child (Linda Marie) was stillborn in 1951. Four years later, their second daughter, Debra Jane was born followed by a son, Vernon Harvey, three years later. Gail enjoyed baking and making cut-up cakes for her children and grandchildren for many years. She served for many years as a 4-H leader, worked the voting polls, was a ticket checker at the Ag Park horse races and was a member of the Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church. After she suffered a minor stroke, her husband assisted with the tasks she could no longer complete and in caring for her. In 1994, Harvey passed away, and Gail moved to the Prairie Village Retirement Center the following year where she enjoyed playing Bingo, watching Husker football games and loving her five grandchildren (Eric Anthony Graham, Matthew Leigh Hilmer, Mark Ryan Hilmer, Amanda Elizabeth Jahn and Daniel Aaron Hilmer) who were the light of her life. Along with other members of the family, Gail was assisted during those years by a special cousin, Judy (Avery) Janssen Davis. The day before they would have been married 60 years, (March 2, 2009) she joined her husband in Heaven. She was survived by her children, grandchildren, a sister (Louella Kropach), a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Jones, and three brothers-in-law, Clarence (Doris) Hilmer, Kenneth (June) Hilmer and Norman (Joyce) Hilmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother (Daryol Jones), a sister (Ivona Savage), her infant daughter, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. And when she was laid to rest in the cemetery, the birds of the sky sang so loudly that even the minister was silenced for a time Stirring souls to rise above earthly concerns and rejoice in the Kingdom of Heaven. For all the sufferings, conflicts and disappointments of life were over, and death no longer existed for her.
