He was born June 4, 1917, the son of Louis and Imogene (Yowell) Garnant at Waterville. He moved with his family to Chelan at the age of 12. He attended school in Chelan. Sandy married Marie Hogensen on June 8, 1941 at First Creek. They lived in Chelan and Holden throughout their married lives. Sandy worked for the Howe Sound Co. in Chelan in the early years of their marriage and at Holden during W.W. II. Returning to Chelan, he began a career as a carpenter, retiring in 1979. He shared with family and friends his interests in hunting, fishing, camping, rock hunting and woodworking. He served with the Chelan Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years as firefighter, captain of a newly organized rescue and resuscitator squad in the early 1950s and as assistant chief and chief. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local #2205. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Buckingham and husband, John, Brewster, a son, Gary Garnant and wife, Linda, Ephrata; two sisters, Imogene Blair and Betty Lou Blankenship and husband, Swede, all of Chelan; five grandchildren, Robert Romiti, Carlton, OR, Kieth Romiti, Valdosta, GA, Joseph Romiti, Auburn, Shauna Garnant Griffith, Richland and Christopher Garnant, Los Angeles, CA and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie on Feb. 17, 1990, two brothers, Jeff and Eugene and one great-grandson, James Griffith. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
