Description	:	Galen Eugene Tacha was born March 15, 1931, in Jennings, Kansas, to Earl and Jessie (Stramp) Tacha. He passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 83. Galen was the youngest of five sons in his family and grew up in the Jennings area. He attended Jennings Grade School and graduated from Jennings High School with the Class of 1949. Galen then attended Barber School before being drafted by the United States Army. Read More	Galen Eugene Tacha was born March 15, 1931, in Jennings, Kansas, to Earl and Jessie (Stramp) Tacha. He passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 83. Galen was the youngest of five sons in his family and grew up in the Jennings area. He attended Jennings Grade School and graduated from Jennings High School with the Class of 1949. Galen then attended Barber School before being drafted by the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Riley, Galen enjoyed playing baseball and was a pitcher for his team. After his honorable discharge from the military, Galen returned to Jennings. He farmed, worked as a barber in Jennings and Rexford. In addition, he built a machine to harvest buffalo grass seed, which he sold. Galen provided the buffalo grass seed used for Interstate 70 when it was built. On December 1, 1976, Galen married Nadine in Colby, Kansas. They made their home in Jennings all their married life and enjoyed almost 38 years together. Galen and Nadine liked to dance and attended many area dances over the years. He was a member of the Jennings American Legion #351 (60 years), Order of Eastern Star, lifetime member of Shriners International and the Elks Lodge, and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, which was a very important part of his life. Survivors include his wife; two stepchildren and their spouses; two brothers and a sister-in-law; three step grandchildren; one step great-grandson; nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Galen was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Gerald Tacha; and step great-grandson, Teryn Haremza. Funeral Service: Tuesday, August 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Oberlin with Rev. Ed Woods officiating Burial: Jennings Cemetery Memorial Fund: Jennings American Legion Post #351 Visitation: Monday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Tuesday after 8 a.m.
