Hoover was born Dec. 29, 1953 in Webster City, the son of Calvin and Carrie Kiesecker Hoover. He grew up on the family farm near Duncombe and attended Webster City High School. He graduated in 1972 and engaged in farming in 1973. He was proud of his family's farming heritage. He embraced farm life during good times and bed, but farming was in his heart. On Dec. 28, 1974, Galen was united in marriage with Diane Kay Abrahamsen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City, and they made their home in the Duncombe area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, farming, camping, bowling and being outdoors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City Moose Lodge and the New Cooperative and United Cooperative. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Diane; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Arnie Koeppen of Humboldt, grandchildren, Kelsey, Hayley and Carter of Humboldt; his son, Christopher of Fort Dodge, mother, Carrie of Fort Dodge; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Renae and Tim Worrell of Kingsley, Patty and Ric Nelson of Fort Dodge; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sheree Hoover of Duncombe; mother-in-law, Doris Abrahamsen, Webster City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Palmer Schneider, Webster City, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law-to-be, Linda Doolittle and Dave Pruismann; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Galen died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City, after a long battle with cancer at the age of 50. His father, Calvin Hoover, his grandparents, Frank and Sophie Hoover, and Charles and Kathryn Kiesecker, aunts Julia "Tiny" Olson and Joan "Knudsen and uncles Eugene and Duane Kiesecker preceded him in death. Galen inspired those around him with his deep faith in God, his sense of humor and his positive outlook on life. He had no time for self-pity or sympathy. Even when cancer sapped his strength, his positive outlook and sense of humor remained strong. Cancer may have caused his death, but it never defeated him. This attitude was his legacy to all he knew. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City.
