Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 6 at Stevens Memorial Chapel with the Rev Mark Wettland officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Gareld P Jones was born Oct 20, 1915, in Grand River to Paul and Ethel (Metts) Jones. He graduated from high school in Huxley in 1934. He served in the United States Army 1941-45 during World War II, and attained the rank of staff sergeant. On April 9 1949 he married Ruth Erickson in Des Moines. He worked for Fall Oil before joining the Ames police force in 1950. He became a sergeant Jan 1, 1960 , and retired Feb 16, 1972. He was a member of Ames American Legion Post 37. Survivors include two sons, Gareld Jr. of Boone, and Ronald of Story City; a daughter, Cheryl Jones on Ames; three grandchildren; four brothers, John of Washington state, Paul of Colorado, Hershel of Arizona and James of Stanton: and five sisters, Elma Boelling of Red Oak, Darlene Emery of Lincoln, Neb., Hazel Alber of Boone, Zeta West of New Virginia, and Opal Harrison of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, his parents; and a brother. A memorial fund has been established for the Diabetes Association. Contributions may be sent to the family home.
