Copied by: Stacey McDowell Dietiker, June 5, 2001 Paul Denham Jones, son of Jim and Minnie Denham Jones, was born September 7, 1884. He was raised on a farm known as Sand Creek in Decatur County. On Oct. 17, 1906, he married Ethel Metts, daughter of Frank and Eliza Baker Metts. In 1911, they bought land and built a new house on Sand Creek. In later years they moved to a farm two miles north of Grand River known as the Marion Brammer farm. He farmed and raised livestock. His father, Jim Jones, raised watermelons for everyone, far and near. To this union eleven children were born: Elma Boelling, Zeta West, Opal Harrison, James Jones, Gerald Jones, John Jones, Paul Jones, Jr., Lyle Jones and Darlene Emery. Six of Paul and Ethel's children still live in Iowa. He passed away at the Clarke county hospital November 13th, 1954, at the age of 70 years, two months and 7 days. In the year of 1906 he was united in marriage with Ethel Mamie Metts and to their union were born eleven children. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and six sons. The daughters are: Mrs. Elma Boelling of Red Oak, Iowa; Mrs. Zeta West, Osceola; Mrs. Opal Harrison, Cambridge, Iowa; Mrs. Hazel Alber, Boone; lowa, Mrs. Darlene Emery, Lincoln, Nebr. Six sons: James of Stanton, lowa; Gareld of Ames, lowa; John of Invale, Nebr.; Heschel of Nevada, la.;. Junior of Ames, lowa and Lyle of Fort Madison, lowa. Also surviving, are 28 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; five sisters: Dean Foland, Grand River, la.; Frarikie Bunch Des Moines; Ada Hoffman of Murray; Kate Daugherty, Merino, Colo.; Mary Snook, Grand River and a brother, Ira of Grand River. There are 5 son in-laws and 6 daughters-in-laws. His father, mother and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Jones had lived in the Grand River community 44 years. His present home was Des Moines. He had many friends in both communities Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Warren Hile at the Webster Funeral home Nov. 14 at 8 o'clock. Burial was in the Westerville cemetery north of Grand-River.
