Read More	Garland Arville Bean passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. Garland was born January 21, 1923, in Clarksville, Arkansas. He was 91 years young, the devoted husband of Maxine; the father of Bob (Marilyn) Bean, Mike, Gary, and Beverly (Roger) Hume. Garland was a grandfather to David (Cheryl) Bean, Jennifer Bean, Lindsey (Jeff) Huhman, and Hayley Hume; and a great-grandfather to Ashley Bean, Austin Bean, and Caitlyn Bean. Garland was a star football player at Clarksville High School, earning him a scholarship to the University of Arkansas, where he wanted to play football. Garland met Helen Maxine Garrison in 1948, when she was renting a room from Olsetta Bean, Garland’s mother, while she attended the College of the Ozarks. Garland and Maxine married in 1949, and they made their home in Clarksville. Garland worked for Pop Cola and drove a Pop Cola truck all around the area. Following the birth of their oldest son, Bob, in 1950, Garland and Maxine moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he pursued a career as a security guard at Boeing, and later at Wesley Medical Center. Three more children were born to Garland and Maxine during this time. Garland was also a private pilot, and had a 2-seat Taylorcraft airplane. While living in Wichita, they planned for their retirement future, by building a home in Clarksville in 1960 (their current residence), and on weekends, Garland flew from Wichita to Clarksville to check on the progress. Following Garland and Maxine’s retirement in 1989, they moved back to their beloved Clarksville, where Garland was able to pursue his many interests of fishing, hunting, and Arkansas Razorback Football. One of the last memories Garland had was a get-well card that his great grandchildren created for him. Garland’s priority was always his family, and he delighted in seeing his grandchildren grow up, and enjoyed hearing about the activities of his three great-grandchildren. Garland was a carefree, larger-than-life personality, never met a stranger, and had a heart of gold. Garland leaves us with a multitude of wonderful, grand memories, and he will be missed greatly. Visitation will be Friday, December 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roller-Cox Funeral Home. Mr. Bean’s funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Stillwell Bible Baptist with Bro. Jim Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Airy Cemetery.
