Description	:	Garnette (Vick) Murphy was the second of four children born of Victor Ledius Vick and Christina (Sanderson) Vick. Garnette (Vick) Murphy married Wilford Murphy . They have two children. Read More	Garnette (Vick) Murphy was the second of four children born of Victor Ledius Vick and Christina (Sanderson) Vick. Garnette (Vick) Murphy married Wilford Murphy . They have two children. Donna Darlyne (Murphy) Greco and Linda Marlene Murphy. Garnettte Murphy provided by Vera Brisbin I an the second oldest child and the oldest daughter of the four Victor Vick children. My brother, Gerald and I were born in southern Saskatchewan and came by train with our parents to Alberta in March of 1927. we lived at Sexsmith, Alberta for two years on a rented place but this was not as Dad had planned. Dad's plan along with many others was to homestead land just east of Grande Prairie. This was at Kleskun Lake. the government had a big land project in operation. First they drained Kleskun Lake as it appeared to have great prospects for farming. Everybody that could took a homestead but the project was not to be as the drainage system froze the first winter and the land returned to a lake. After the two years was up on our rented land Dad moved across the mighty Peace River. I remember this trip well as we went by wagon and Gerald and I drove the cattle and horses. It seemed the days were very long when one was not allowed to ride the horse faster than a walk. The following years saw us living at Blue Hawk, Last Lake, Figure Eight Lake and the last move was to Deer Hill, Alberta. Two more children joined the family. Deloris was born in 1931 and Dorothy in 1936. I was married in September of 1942 to Wilfred Murphy and we lived east of Grand Prairie, Alberta, in 1974 and it is still our home. We have two daughters. Darlyne Greco lives here in Grande Prairie and her only child, Vincent is married and lives in Calgary. Linda Pratt lives in Clearbrook, BC. Her son, Tim is attending college at Vermillion, Alberta and her daughters, Keri-Jo and Christine (named after my Mom) live with her and go to school. My husband Wilfred, also came from Saskatchewan. He came from Ennie Owens. they left Fairholme, Saskatchewan in May of 1936 and arrived in Fairview, Alberta, in July six weeks later. they probably traveled by one of the last wagon trains of our era. There were six people, four wagons, 50 horses and a few cattle. We met at Lost Lake where Jim Owens had rented the Ernie and Ed Oke's land. After retiring from Canfor in Grande Prairie with 25 years, Wilfred now works for the R.C.M.P. here in the city. While growing up, we were more often than not, very poor. We were kids of the depression era. Nonetheless we were always happy. Dad always managed to make a dollar whenever possible, sometimes playing for dances for as little as 50 cents and as times got better he got a dollar or two. Mom sold butter, eggs, etc. when she could and we always got by. Our home was always filled with love and laughter and we always had music and song. What more could we ask for. I recall years gone by with a heart full of love and fond memories of the many people I have had the privilege to meet and know through the years. These memories I will always cherish.
