Read More	Garth LaRue Melvin, 78, son of Lawrence Melvin and Gertrude (Kinnison) Melvin Skinner, was born April 13, 1921, on a farm near Angus, Nebraska. He passed away Saturday, October 2, 1999, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital. Garth was baptized on January 18, 1970, at the Nelson Christian Church by Rev. Victor Schwarz. He attended rural schools at Stone School, near Scottsbluff and one near Beloit, Kansas. In 1939, Garth graduated from the Edgar High School He was a member of the Nelson Christian Church now the Nelson Community United Church of Christ since 1970. January 25, 1942, he was inducted into the Army Air Force and was discharged on December 8, 1945. He was united in marriage to Alice Irene Blevins on April 18, 1943, at a chapel on the Davis-Monothan Base in Tucson, Arizona. To this union were born two sons. He was a member of the Nelson Community Church of Christ and the Nelson American Legion and the V.F.W. Posts. Garth and Irene were gate attendants for campgrounds on several lakes in Texas, including Belton, Waco, Grangier and Whitney. Garth loved to fish anywhere they were biting. He enjoyed a good game of golf and as a pastime would fly two string stunt kites. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Douglas D. Melvin on January 5, 1950; and one brother, Max L. Melvin. Survivors include his wife, Alice Irene, and one son, Dennis D. Melvin, both of Nelson, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Heather Renee Tyler and her husband Donald of Superior, Nebraska, and Michael Dee Melvin of David City, Nebraska. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 5, 1999, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was "A Closer Walk With Thee", "In The Garden" and "God Be With You", with Tom and Terry Jensen singing the duets and Cloma Corman as accompanist and organist. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Thornberry, Harlan Meyer, LeRoy Schott, Bud Ferebee, Alvin Schott and Gordon Meyer. Honorary bearers were Frank Harris, Chuck Tuttle, Tuffy Culbertson, Dick Wroughton, Royce Schott, John Ensign and Ralph Bottenfield.
