Demaree passed away due to medical complications on Nov. 5, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born in Minot, N.D., in 1935, the third of five children. In 1940, his family moved to Billings. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1953 and worked odd jobs for a while, including building grain silos along the hi-line. He attended Eastern Montana College for one quarter, then enlisted in the Air Force in 1955. He met his beloved Amelia "Amy" at a country dance and, after four years and following him to California, she finally convinced him she was the "one" for him. On June 21, 1958, he married Amy in Martinez, Calif. He was discharged from the Air Force in November 1958 and they returned to Billings. After two years at Eastern, the money ran out, so they moved to San Diego. But the call of Montana was too great so they moved to Missoula less than a year later and Gary finished school at the University. Gary graduated from the University of Montana in June 1964. He joined Galusha, Higgins and Galusha that same month and thus began an accounting success story. Gary spent the next 40 years involved in the profession locally, statewide, and nationally. He served as the president of the Montana Society of CPAs in 1993 to 1994 and went on to represent Montana on the AICPA Council from 1994 to 2000. He was the Algeria Shrine Treasurer, as well as belonging to the Scottish Rite Bodies, Algeria Circus Patrol, Royal Order of Jester's Court #5 and Morning Star Lodge #5 A.F. & A.M. Gary also served in his community through the Model City Development Corporation, the United Way, YMCA, Carroll College, Junior Achievement, Cub Scouts, Helena Lions, Plymouth Congregational Church and numerous other worthwhile organizations. Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He and his family spent many years hunting, fishing, camping, boating and exploring Montana's back roads together. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Morris J. Demaree Sr. and Ida V. Demaree; his brothers, James Dennis Demaree and Morris James Demaree. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Amy "Toots" Demaree; his son, Douglas Demaree; his daughter, Julia Demaree (Anna Marie); as well as his sister, Wilma Wilkins (Bill); brother Norris Demaree (Dorothy); sister-in-law Yvonne Demaree; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and four grandchildren. Church services will be held Friday, Nov. 9, 10:30 a.m., at Plymouth Congregational Church, 400 S. Oaks in Helena, with graveside military honors in Mountview Cemetery in Billings on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Plymouth Congregational Endowment Fund, 400 S.
