Herbek, 56, passed away October 8, 2016 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska. Rosary will be Thursday, October 13, 2016; 9:40 A.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence. Luncheon will be at the church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation. Gary Lynn was born on June 14, 1960 to Albert J. Jr. and Marian C. (Faimon) Herbek in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Gary graduated eighth grade from Sacred Heart Catholic School. He graduated with the Class of 1978 from Lawrence Public School and then attended Central Community College, Hastings, Nebraska. Following graduation he helped on the family farm for several years before he began working for Ken & Al’s Service, Lawrence. He also ran a hay business with friends and they also enjoyed a little catering, “Country Cookers” on the sideline. His passion was working with his cattle herd. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, farming, golfing and cooking. Gary was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He had been a past member and officer of the Lawrence Rural Fire Department and Lawrence Country Club. Gary was preceded in death by his father, brother-in-law, Richard (Rick) Myers, nephew, Brian Kathman, grandparents, Albert & Cecelia Herbek and Rudolph & Marie Faimon, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary is survived by his mother, 2 brothers: Ron(Marie) Herbek, Deweese, Nebraska and Randy Herbek and friend Lorrinda, Ruskin, Nebraska, 2 sisters: Lisa (Don) Kathman, Lawrence, Nebraska and Cindy Myers, Ohiowa, Nebraska, Sister-in-Law: Dara Herbek, Belleville, Kansas. Nephews: Ethan (Ali) Herbek, Savannah, Missouri, Evan Herbek, Lincoln, Nebraska, Seth and Lane Kathman, Lawrence, Nebraska, Nieces: Tara (Karter) Sasse, Diller, Nebraska, Tiffany Herbek, Belleville, Kansas, Great-Nieces & Nephews: Kaylee and Kyler Herbek, and TynleighSasse, aunts, uncles and a host of cousins and friends.
