(Bud) Herbek, Jr., 78, Lawrence, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center, Sidney, Nebraska with family by his side. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. Rosary was led by cousin, Sister Rosaline Herbek followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Melvin Reining, cousin served as acolyte and Sister Rosaline Herbek as reader. Mass servers were great-nephews, Cody and Trent Buescher. Linda Ostdiek, cousin provided organ music with nieces, Carolyn Kohmetscher and Peg Faimon singing: "On Eagles Wings, One Day at a Time, The Lord is My Shepherd and Go in Peace to the tune of Wooden Heart. Donnie Engelhardt, great-nephew performed two solos on his guitar, singing Amazing Grace and In This Life. Offertory gifts were brought to the altar by the granddaughters. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren: Ethan and Ali Herbek, Evan Herbek, Tara and Karter Sasse, Tiffany Herbek, Seth Kathman and Lane Kathman. Family Inurnment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lawrence, Nebraska. A luncheon served by the Altar Society immediately followed in the Church basement. Albert James was born on March 20, 1938 to Albert L., Sr. and Cecelia A. (Kotinek) in Hastings, Nebraska. Albert graduated eighth grade from County School (District Star 24) near the family farm. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School with the Class of 1955 with football being his passion. Following graduation he worked for several years for Vic Meyer Farms of Edgar. On April 15, 1958, Albert was joined in marriage to Marian C. Faimon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence by Msgr. Frank Sherman. They started their married life on a farm east of Lawrence. To this union five children were born. They farmed until retiring to Lawrence in 1995. In 2005, he was diagnosed with cancer and after treatment had remained cancer free until 2014 when once again following treatment had been in remission for the last year. Albert was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as an usher and trustee. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Lawrence Rural Fire Department, serving as treasurer for many years and he also served on the Nuckolls County ASCS Committee. He was an avid fisherman, with many stories and he knew every water hole within a hundred miles. He enjoyed many fishing trips with the grandkids and neighborhood friends. The grandkids and great-grandkids were always in for a fun time with grandpa around. He could be found many a summer day working in his garden with produce for any neighbor that walked by. He looked at seed catalogs like a kid use to look at the Sears Roebuck Christmas Catalog. Listening to Mollie B. was another of his favorite pastimes. In his later years he liked to try his hand at baking, using many of his mom's favorite recipes. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Richard (Rick) Myers; grandson Brian Kathman; brother-in-laws Harold Faimon, Arnold Faimon, Ray Juranek, Lavern Kohmetscher, Stanley (Jun) Juranek, Robert Novotny and Charles Faimon; sister-in-laws Rita Kohmetscher, Joan Faimon, Margaret Faimon and Charlene Buescher, Nieces and Nephews. Albert is survived by his Wife Marian, Lawrence; Sons Ron & wife Marie Herbek, Deweese, Gary Herbek, Lawrence, Randy Herbek and friend, Lorrinda, Ruskin; Daughters Lisa & husband Don Kathman, Lawrence, Cindy Myers, Ohiowa; Daughter-In-Law Dara Herbek, Belleville, KS; Brother Richard Herbek, Hastings; Sister Kathy (Bill) Zuspan, Lincoln; Grandchildren Ethan (Ali) Herbek, Savannah, MO, Evan Herbek, Lincoln, Tara (Karter) Sasse, Diller, Tiffany Herbek, Belleville, Seth and Lane Kathman, Lawrence; Great Grandchildren Kaylee and Kyler Herbek and Tynleigh Sasse; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Lorain Faimon, Martha Faimon, Vivian Juranek, Angie Juranek, Robert (Maureen) Faimon, Betty Novotny, Elmer (Maxine) Rempe, Paul (Wanda) Faimon, Adrian (Maureen) Menke, Howard (Agnes) Schroer, Ron (Barb) Buescher, Tom (Theresa) Kulek and Pat (Cheryl) Faimon; numerous, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. Gehrig-Stritt Chapel, Sidney, Nebraska and Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska were in charge of arrangements.
