Sloss, 70, son of Marvin and Veronica (Lydon) Sloss, was born June 8, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He died March 13, 2009 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center. Gary grew up in rural Guthrie Center. He attended Guthrie Center schools and participated in football. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1957. He married Harriett Davis November 30, 1958 in Guthrie Center and they made their home in rural Guthrie Center. Gary held jobs of carpenter with Covault Builders, farmer, and lastly maintenance supervisor at Guthrie County Hospital from 1976 until retiring in 2000. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, watching old western movies, taking pictures, going for drives and being with family. He also enjoyed joking around with the many people who took care of him. Gary is survived by his children Vickie (Charlie) Carney of Adair, Pamela Sloss of Ankeny, Curtis (Brenda) Sloss of Guthrie Center, Nancy (Dale) Monthei of Johnston, Jason (Wendy) Sloss of Guthrie Center; Grandchildren; Jamie and Jeremy Christofferson, Tyler, Brady, and Blair Carney, Kyle, Spencer and Megan Sloss, Emma and Nolan Monthei, and Samantha and Jackson Sloss; and brothers Alvin (Hue) Sloss of Bettendorf and Craig (Susan) Sloss of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his wife Harriett and his parents. Funeral services were March 17, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Guthrie Center. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center.
