Description	:	Gayle Don Galusha was born to Don L. Galusha and Edna Schneider Galusha on April 4, 1931, on a ranch in rural Springview and passed away on March 12, 2010, in Lincoln at the age of 78 years, 11 months and eight days. Galusha and Edna Schneider Galusha on April 4, 1931, on a ranch in rural Springview and passed away on March 12, 2010, in Lincoln at the age of 78 years, 11 months and eight days. He was one of three children in the family. Gayle attended the District 11 country school one-half mile from his farm homestead. He then graduated from Fairmont High School with the Class of 1948. After graduation, he farmed for a few years with his family. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. He qualified for officer's training school, training at Harlingen Air Force Base in Texas. He became a member of the 98th Bomb Wing and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served as a navigator on a B-29. He was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan, Lakenheath Air Force Base in Great Britian, Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif., and then Lincoln Air Force Base, Lincoln. After his military service ended in 1956, he resumed farming in the Fairmont area. On December 2, 1961, Gayle was united in marriage to Nancy Lee Ackerman. To this union three children were born, Tomie Denis, Tricia Gail and Thad Jaret Galusha. Gayle was active in the community. He served on the Fairmont Co-op elevator board and Fairmont Public School board. He was also a member of the Fairmont American Legion for over 50 years up until his death. He held many offices in the Fairmont Legion, including Post commander and adjutant. He took pride in the Legion and its activities and was a very active, dedicated member. Gayle loved people and meeting his friends at the Tower Cafe and Fairmont Senior Center for coffee and card games. He was known to brag about his card playing winnings as a "supplement to his farm income." Gayle was an avid reader of many books and he enjoyed reading the newspaper from cover to cover each day. When Gayle had spare time, he enjoyed fishing and ice fishing with his friends, children and grandkids. He loved to garden and sparked this interest in his children. His family and friends admired Gayle for his resiliency and strength battling heart disease over the years. In March of 2005, Gayle and Nancy moved into Fairmont from the family farm. They enjoyed living in town. Above all else, Gayle loved his family and spending time with them. Due to his health, Gayle moved into the Exeter Care Center in early February 2010. He passed away in Lincoln at Bryan/LGH West. Gayle is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nancy; children, Tomie and Denice Galusha, Tricia and Charles Chapman, and Thad Galusha; grandsons, Gunner Scott Chapman and Aidan Gayle Galusha; sister, Donna O'Brien and husband, Mike O'Brien; brother Del Galusha and wife, Janice; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Bob and Nina Bartu and Lanny Ackerman and Nadine Ackerman; eight nephews and five nieces. Gayle is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Edna Galusha. A celebration of live service was held on March 17 at the Fairmont Community Church. Military graveside services were conducted by members of American Legion Post 21. Burial was at the Fairmont Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal March 31st 2010 page 11.
