Sutton-Gayle Eugene Mack died Friday, April 18, 2003 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE at the age of 82. Funeral services were held April 22, 2003 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Sutton with the Rev. Gary Cepek officiating. Interment was in the Sutton Cemetery at Sutton with Clay Center American Legion Post #87 conducting military rites. Music was provided by MArsha Akerson, soloist with Ruth Heins as organist. Gayle was born to Eugene William and Mabel (Johnson) Mack January 24, 1921 near Clay Center. He went to school in Verona and Clay Center, graduating from Clay Center High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII in the Aleutians Islands. Following the war, he returned to farming near Clay Center until his retirement. On February 12, 1970 he was united in marriage to Maxine Rae Johnson in Aurora. Gayle was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church i Sutton, the Clay Center American LEgion Post #87, and a volunteer worker for the Hastings Community Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; sister, Valda Alberts; and brother-in-law Marvin Johnson. He survived by two brothers, Harlan Mack and wife Twila of Clay Center, Royce Mack and wife Kae of Loup City; brother-in-law Barney Alberts of Clay Center; sister-in-law Jeanne Johnson of Lincoln; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
