Description	:	Gaylord "Jiggs" Ritter, 89, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. He was born February 17, 1920, in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Charles R. "Chas" and Lulu E. (Knipp) Ritter. On June 29, 1946, he married Viola Lulfs and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2007. Jiggs was a retired machinist from the Napoleon Products Company and a retired barber, where he worked at many local shops including Hatchers, Frytags and Soap Adams before opening Ritter's Barber Shop in Malinta, Ohio. He was born February 17, 1920, in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Charles R. "Chas" and Lulu E. (Knipp) Ritter. On June 29, 1946, he married Viola Lulfs and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2007. Jiggs was a retired machinist from the Napoleon Products Company and a retired barber, where he worked at many local shops including Hatchers, Frytags and Soap Adams before opening Ritter's Barber Shop in Malinta, Ohio. He was a Napoleon High School graduate of the class of 1938. He was a noted pitcher for Rausch's Roofers before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Napoleon VFW Post 8218 and Disabled American Veterans. He was U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II, serving with the 95th Division known as The Iron Men of Metz. He earned many medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He is survived by a son, John (Linda) Ritter of Napoleon; a daughter, Mary Jo (John) Grycza of Liberty Center; four grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Forest, Dale, Gladden, Eldon and Bernell Ritter; two sisters, Ruby Denny and Ione Hudson Homan; a granddaughter, Rachel Fifer; and a great-grandson, Gavin Pedraza. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, with the Rev. Lee Genter officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Memory Gardens with military honors accorded by the joint veteran's posts of Napoleon.
