Description	:	Geert van Engen was born in December 1821 in the country village of Schoonebeek, located in the northeastern part of the Netherlands, at the border with Germany, son of Jan van Engen (26 years old, farmer) and Jantien Engbers (32). On September 22, 1855 farmer Geert van Engen married in the former municipality Dalen, province Drenthe at the age of 33 years the 13 years younger Geertje Schoemakers, also born in Schoonebeek and daughter of carpenter Geert Schoemakers and Egbertje Klaassen. Read More	Geert van Engen was born in December 1821 in the country village of Schoonebeek, located in the northeastern part of the Netherlands, at the border with Germany, son of Jan van Engen (26 years old, farmer) and Jantien Engbers (32). On September 22, 1855 farmer Geert van Engen married in the former municipality Dalen, province Drenthe at the age of 33 years the 13 years younger Geertje Schoemakers, also born in Schoonebeek and daughter of carpenter Geert Schoemakers and Egbertje Klaassen. They had in Schoonebeek in the former municipality Dalen the following children: * Jantje, on December 8, 1855; * Geert, April 25, 1857; * Jan, October 28, 1858; * Evert, September 25, 1860. Their father Geert van Engen was in all those birth years a farmer. On March 16, 1863 the family Van Engen moved from Schoonebeek, house number 15, to very probably the city of Kampen, located in the northwestern part of the Dutch northeastern province Overijssel, near the mouth of the IJssel River into the -former- Zuidersee (Southern Sea), since 1932 called IJsselmeer (IJssel Lake). Kampen has a theological university. Probably on May 4, 1863 their daughter Everdina ("Dina") was born, quite likely in the city of Kampen. However, in 2018 her birth certificate couldn't be found in the provinces Overijssel, Drenthe or elsewhere in the Netherlands. It looks that her birth was "forgotten" to be declared at the townhall of her birthplace. Two months later, on July 31, 1863, his wife Geertje Schoemakers died at the age of 28 years in the city of Kampen, province Overijssel. On March 3, 1864 Geert van Engen (42 years old, theology student [how amazing!] married in the city of Kampen the seven years younger Gerrigjen Blom (Flower], daughter of Evert Blom and Derkjen Kroese and born in the small city of Hattem, located in the extreme northern part of the Dutch eastern province Gelderland. On December 26, 1864 they had in Kampen a stillborn child. On July 21, 1867 they arrived with their children Jantje (11 years old), Geert (10), Jan (8), Evert (5), Everstine (2) and Gerritje (age not mentioned) at the port of New York, Castle Garden. In August 1870 Geert Van Engen (48 years old, born in the Netherlands, laborer), his [second] wife Gerritje (42, Netherlands) and the children Jane (14, Netherlands), Geert (13, Netherlands), John (11, Netherlands), Evert (9, Netherlands), Dina (7, Netherlands) and Derkje (2, Iowa) were living in the "Dutch" city of Pella, Marion County, located in the southeastern central part of Iowa. In June 1880 Garrot Venengen (58, rail roading), his wife Geretye (52) and the children Garret (22, laborer), John (21, laborer), Avert (19, laborer), Dena (17), Derka (12) and Girtie (9, Iowa) were living in St. Edward, Boone County, located in the mid northeastern part of Nebraska. In June 1900 Geert Van Engen [wrongly transcribed as Gust Enger] (78 years old, born in December 1821 in the Netherlands, immigrated in 1867, landlord), his wife Gerritje (72, March 1828, Netherlands, immigrated in 1867, mother of 2 living and 4 deceased children), their daughters Derkje (22, September 1867, Iowa) and Geertje (29, December 1870, Iowa) were living in their own house in or near the unincorporated community of Saltillo, Lancaster County, located in the southeastern part of Nebraska. In September 1901 his wife Gerritje died at the age of 73 years in the Dutch settlement of Holland in the southeastern part of Nebraska. Widower Geert van Engen died there too, in January 1903, at the age of 81 years.
