Description	:	Gene Arthur Gabel, son of Gene G. Gabel and Loris R. (Gronemeyer) Gabel, was born October 15, 1940 in Akron, IA. He attended country school through the 6th grade, the 7th grade in Le Mars, IA and graduated from Akron High School in 1959. Gene then attended one year of college at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. He returned to Amarillo AFB in Texas, where he completed his... Read More	Gene Arthur Gabel, son of Gene G. Gabel and Loris R. (Gronemeyer) Gabel, was born October 15, 1940 in Akron, IA. He attended country school through the 6th grade, the 7th grade in Le Mars, IA and graduated from Akron High School in 1959. Gene then attended one year of college at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. In 1961, he entered the U.S. Air Force and after basic training he took advance training in the military public health and preventive medicine field. Gene then spent 13 months in Korea. He returned to Amarillo AFB in Texas, where he completed his military duty in 1965. On October 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sondra Van Wyhe in Ireton, IA. They were blessed with twins, Kelly and Shelly. After Gene's military duty he worked with his father until 1968 at which time he began a career with CIT Financial in Sioux City, IA. He worked there until he was promoted to loan manager in 1972 with the CIT office in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1988 he started working for Greentree Financial in Sioux Falls and worked there until 1999 at which time he took a position with Toner Plus. After ten years the company was purchased by Century Business Products and he continued with the company until ill health forced him to retire in 2011. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion, Post 15 and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 628. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sondra, a daughter, Shelly Gabel, and a son, Kelly (Dorothy) Gabel, all of Sioux Falls, 4 grandchildren, Joshua, Dakota, Elijah, and Hope Gabel, 2 sisters, Wanda (Wendell) Oltmanns, and Debra (Robert) Gibson, both of Le Mars, IA, a uncle, Wendall (Carmen) Gronemeyer, St. James, MN, a sister in-law, Yvonne Van Wyhe, Sioux Falls, and a brother in-law, Ron (Shirley) Van Wyhe, Sterling, IL.
