Description	:	Gene R. Phelps, 91, of Tipton, died peacefully, Monday, April 1, 2019, surrounded by his family at his home in Tipton. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his memory. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, Iowa. Gene Ray Phelps was born November 8, 1927, in Linn County, the son of James Oakley and Esther Margaret (Sharpless) Phelps. He graduated from Tipton High School with the Class of 1945. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1945 to 1947. He married Delores Jeanne Williams on June 15, 1948, at the Red Oak Grove Church, rural Tipton. Together they raised their three children, Dennifer, Randy and Traci. He was employed as an Agricultural Sales agent and was the territorial manager for Golden Sun Feeds. He was a member of the Tipton V.F.W., past member of the Tipton Moose Lodge, past 4-H Leader and Cub Scout Leader. He is survived by his wife, Delores of Tipton; two daughters, Dennifer (Peter) Kann of Greensboro, GA, and Traci (Jeffrey) Ormsby of Tipton; one son, Randy Phelps of Tipton; seven grandchildren, Elisabeth Kann, Melanie Loffredo, Zachary Phelps, S. Sgt. Corey Ormsby, Tucker Ormsby, Griffin Ormsby and Cael Ormsby; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Naomi Wehde and two brothers, Max and Dale Phelps. Fry Funeral Home
