Obituary: Fairfield Ledger Friday October 25, 1940 Pg. 8 Col. 4 G.G. FRANKLIN DIED THURSDAY IN OTTUMWA Services Saturday for long-time resident of Batavia community Grant G. Franklin (sic), 73, long-time resident of Batavia, passed away Thursday evening at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa. He had been seriously ill for the past twelve days, and had been in poor health for five years. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Brethren church northwest of Libertyville. Services will be in charge of Rev. Will Glotfelty. Burial will be in the Brethren cemetery. The body was taken to the Campbell Funeral home in Batavia. Mr. Franklin had resided in Batavia or vicinity for the past 55 years, and had always been engaged in farming. He was married to Hannah Bonnett in 1888, and she preceded him in death in 1910. Surviving are seven sons, Bert and Jim of Keosauqua, Willie of Birmingham, Ralph, Emery, Rola, and Robert of Batavia; one daughter, Mrs. William Wheaton of Keosauqua; and one sister, Mrs. Liby Bodkin of Kahoka, Mo. One son, Floyd preceded his father in death several years ago.
