Genevieve was born August 10, 1919 on a ranch northwest of Harrison, NE to Theodore H. and Catherine M. (Meyer) Zurn. Genie grew up on the family ranch. Read More	Genevieve Mary "Genie" LaMay, 91, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Highland Park Care Center. Genevieve was born August 10, 1919 on a ranch northwest of Harrison, NE to Theodore H. and Catherine M. (Meyer) Zurn. Genie grew up on the family ranch. In 1933 the family moved into Harrison and she graduated from Sioux County High School in 1937. After graduation she worked for the county clerk and A.A.A. Office until 1942. On November 7, 1942 she was united in marriage to Joseph C. LaMay at the Church of the Nativity in Harrison. To this union 5 children were born, Lawrence, Annette, Donald, Gary and Kathy. In 1943 while her husband was in the service, the couple lived in Denver, CO where she worked for Gillilands Realty. The family moved back to Nebraska in 1951 and to Alliance in 1956. She was employed by the Alliance Times-Herald and retired in 1986 after 29 years. Genie was a devoted wife, mother and peace maker. She loved to cook, sew, dance, make quilts and write short stories of the events of her life. She will be surely missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Genie was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Panhandle Country Music Association; she served as secretary for the Legion of Mary, Alliance Federated Women's Club and the Happy Homemakers Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Couple's Dance Club, and a past member of the board of directors of the Alliance Area YMCA. Genie is survived by her children and their spouses, Lawrence (Larry) and Bonnie LaMay of Omaha, NE, Annette and Roger Davies of Hemingford, NE, Donald G. LaMay of Omaha, NE, Gary and Mary LaMay of Urbandale, IA and Kathy and Kenneth Steinman of Bullhead City, AZ. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, her sister Rosella Meng, her brother Raymond Zurn, and two grandsons, Douglas LaMay and Brian Davies. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Alliance, NE.
