Description	:	George Abner Griswold was the oldest child of George A. Griswold and Candace Alcott. He married Mary C. Cook, daughter of Robert Cook and Ruth A. Kinnard, on 31 May 1850. They were the parents of 3 known children - Bertha M., Stark W., and Loyd Webster Griswold. After his wife's death in 1897, George remarried to a woman by the name of Viola. GRISWOLD DIES AT HIS HOME IN ALMONT SATURDAY. Was President of the Pioneer's Association and at One Time Sheriff of Clinton County – The Funeral. Saturday morning at an early hour occurred the death of George A. Griswold at his home in Almont, Elk River township. The end came after an illness of about a week, brought on by a stroke of paralysis which he sustained some time ago. George A. Griswold was born in New Haven, Conn., June 11, 1825. When he was 14 years of age, he and his parents removed to Clinton county. In the year 1850 he was married to Miss May A. Cook [sic] and two children were born to them, Stark W. and Bertha M. Griswold, who reside in Elk River township. The deceased was a well known farmer and at different times had been honored by his fellow men with the offices of constable, justice of the peace and township supervisor. He had the distinction of being the first assessor of Elk River township. In 1861 he was made sheriff of Clinton county and served three terms with great credit and honor to his party. Mr. Griswold was regarded as an authority on the early history of Clinton county. For many years he was a member of the Clinton County State and Territorial Pioneer's Association and had devoted much of his time to the business of the society. In 1884, in recognition of the great services rendered, he was elected president of the association, in which office he continued up to the time of his death. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the country home near Almont at 2 o'clock. Interment will take place at the Smith cemetery. (Source: Clinton Herald)
