Description	:	The first twelve years of the life of George Albert Carr was spent on the farm where he was born, in LaFayette County, Wisconsin. During these years his mother (Thankful Carr) died and a stepmother came into the home. This second wife of Darius (George's father) was a devout Christian woman and gave the children a good home and loving care. During these years his mother (Thankful Carr) died and a stepmother came into the home. This second wife of Darius (George's father) was a devout Christian woman and gave the children a good home and loving care. George was brought up in the normal life of a farm where hard work was the order of the day. In 1869, the family moved to McHenry County, Illinois where George grew to manhood. His formal education was meager but he was an intelligent and well informed man. He was a fine penman. In 1879, George married the girl of his choice (Sarah Etta Anthony). In 1881 they moved, together with their baby (Bertha Edna), his parents (Darius and Elvira), and brother Jehiel, to the frontier State of Iowa. Here, life for a few years was a struggle with prairie fires and other disasters. The obstacles were finally overcome and they prospered. They lived on several farms, the last one being near Rowan, Iowa. There, George suffered severe attacks of sciatic rheumatism and as the age of fifty-five succumbed to cancer of the pancreas. He was devoted to his family and much concerned for their well being. The children of George and Sarah (she was known by her middle name of Etta) were four in number. The son, Franklin, has not married. He has always remained at home. After the death of the father (George Albert), Franklin and his mother moved into the town of Rowan where they stayed. Both are devoted members of the Methodist Church. Franklin is a "born mechanic" and loves to work with machinery.
