Description	:	George A. Hager was born Sept. 21, 1873, at Avoca, Kansas, where he lived with his parents until he was 20 years of age, when he left the parental roof, and went forth to make his way in the world. Being exceptionally strong in body, and fearless in spirit, he chose hard and hazardous occupations, where the wages were high. For five years, he was employed by the St. Louis Gas Company, where he soon rose to a position of responsibility, with 24 men under his supervision. Hager was born Sept. 21, 1873, at Avoca, Kansas, where he lived with his parents until he was 20 years of age, when he left the parental roof, and went forth to make his way in the world. Being exceptionally strong in body, and fearless in spirit, he chose hard and hazardous occupations, where the wages were high. For five years, he was employed by the St. Louis Gas Company, where he soon rose to a position of responsibility, with 24 men under his supervision. Later on he accepted a position with the St. Louis Steel Company, and was one of the workmen employed in the construction of the big bridge which spans the Mississippi river at St. Louis. He was second foreman at the building of the bridge across the Potomac river, near Washington, D. C., when the late war was declared he went to work in the ammunition department of the St. Louis Steel Works. About a year ago, his health commenced to fail, as a result of long continued inhaling of gas, and steel dust. On the advice of physicians, he later went to Colorado in an effort to regain his health ... He was brought to the home of his parents in Holton, Saturday, February 22nd, where he died the following day. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Hager, of this city; his wife, and step-daughter; one brother, J. W. Hager, of Holton; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary McLin of Holton; Mrs. Dora Segrist, of Belleville, Kansas, and Mrs. Hattie G. Segrist, of Avoca, Kansas .... he was 42 years, 5 months, and 2 days of age. The Holton Recorder, February 27, 1919.
