Description	:	Son of Charles Ezra & Mathilda Emaline "Emma" (Meeker) Dorsett - Cochrun. George wanted to be a Stage Coach driver just like his uncle Abner Meeker. On his first run alone he got caught in a blizzard, and was not found until spring. On September 4th, 1891 Charles Dorsett died leaving a widow and 6 young children. On his first run alone he got caught in a blizzard, and was not found until spring. On September 4th, 1891 Charles Dorsett died leaving a widow and 6 young children. George was the oldest boy at age 14. In the next three years the family had a very difficult time. In March 1894 after a particularly hard winter George and his mother decided he should look around for a job to help out. He found a mail carrier job. On his way to work, about a half a mile from home, he came upon a strutting ground of sage grouse. He shot a few and took them back home, throwing them on the kitchen floor remarking to his mother "Here is some meat for a day or two." It was the last time she would see him. He was caught in a March blizzard near Alzada, Montana and died. A letter, his picture, and a book with his writing in it are at the Ekalaka Museum in Ekalaka, Montana. George was lost in March of 1894 and his body was found the 1st of September, 1894. Here are the Minutes of the Inquest hearing: State of South Dakota County of Butte SS R.K. Cameron, George Redding, W.H. Ross, Ed Ross, Jas. McCumsey, and S.B. Tallman being all duly sworn deposes and says each for himself, that on the 1st day of September, 1894 he was called to the locality commonly known as Owl Creek Breaks where James McCumsey had discovered the remains of a man supposed to be George Dorsett, that he found said remains on Section 14,Township 10N of Range1 East, B.H.M. In Butte County. That the remains were found lying face downward in as good a condition as could be expected considering the length of time they had been exposed, that the clothing left on said remains when found consisted of overshirt, vest, coat, slicker, boots, glove and mitten of left hand, and hat. That the following articles were found in the pockets of clothing: In right overall pocket one pocket knife, in right pants pocket one small purse, badly rotted and containing $2.25 in silver coin and $10.00 in currency; in coat pocket: one small day book with few figures written in with led pencil. Despondent further says that he assisted in placing the said remains in a suitable coffin and that the same was conveyed to the town of Belle Fourche, South Dakota R.K.Camero Ed Ross George Redding W.H. Alzada, Montana March 11, 1894 Dear Mother, Enclosed find $5.00. I have done a good business so far and prospects for better times. So write and tell me how you are getting along. I will be down in about a month.
