These two boys are the very first Bohemian citizens of Adams county who have enlisted as Uncle Sam's boys, and the relatives and friends of their Nationality decided to do them all honor possible on this occasion, as each and all are very proud of the boys. One of the young men joined a regiment in Colorado and the other joined Co. C at Creston. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaze, sr., of Cromwell, and neither boy has yet attained his majority. The hall was beautifully decorated in the National emblems, many small flags and two old Glories figuring in the decorations. The boys wore their soldier uniforms and were very proud of them. During the evening each boy was presented with a little gift of a $5 bill, as a slight token of the regard in which they are held in the community, and all wish a safe return. George Arthur Blazek, son of Frank and Anna Konop Blazek, was born in Adams County, Iowa, July 14, 1897, and died at the Greater Community Hospital at Creston, October 18 at the age of 69 years, three months and four days. He was married at Creston, Iowa, March 8, 1922 to Esther R. Vicker. They lived in Adams County until 1951, and then moved to a farm in Union County. He retired from farming in 1964 and lived in Creston. He served in World War II as a member of Company C, 168th Infantry in the 42nd Rainbow Division. He was a life member of the Creston VFW post and a member of the Veterans of World I and the Rainbow Division Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Esther; four sons, Roy R. Blazek of Paulina, and Harold J., Gene A. And Dale D. Blazek, all of Creston; a daughter, Mrs. William Chapman of Creston; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Jesse J. Blazek of Creston and four sisters, Mrs. Tilly J. Gravett and Mrs. L. D. Goforth of Creston, Mrs. Clara E. Wilson of Pocatello, Idaho and Mrs. R. E. Stoner of San Bruno, California. A daughter, Martha N. Blazek preceded him in death. Funeral services were held from Coens Home for Funerals in Creston, October 21 at 1:30 PM, conducted by Rev. Myron E. Hayes. Burial was in the Bohemian National Cemetery, South of Williamson. The Creston VFW post rifle squad conducted the military services at the grave.
