This records has her name transcribed Cartner, but it was Castner. I do note the transcribed 'P' in his name. But all records have very clear, 'B'. In 1860 in Washington Twp., Warren, NJ, was found George B. Crotchley (this name is spelled "more ways than Carter's got liver pills") age 26 & wife Rebecca age 21. They were residing with John R. Bowlby & his family. With George and Rebecca, was her sister, Sarah Castner (very clear writing), age 36. Their parents were Adam Castner & Mary Swartz, married 23 Oct 1826 Hunterdon, NJ. By Aug 1870 they were in Lebanon, Hunterdon county. He's listed as G.B. Crotsley (spelled correctly), age 35, as a Farmer w/estate value 1300/personal 350 & wife Rebecca age 32 w/childr: John M W age 8 (also interred Fairmount Cem w/memorial), David A age 7 & dau Sarah E age 5. George's father, John Crotsley, was brother to Catherine Crotsley of whom married John Hockenbury. John Hockenbury & Catherine Crotsley had a daughter Sarah Ann Hockenbury of whom married John H. Sutton. These were my 2nd gr-grandparents. These families are very tangled. I don't know, but it's possible that John Hockenbury (of whom was married to George's Aunt Catherine) was brother to Anna Hockenbury (George's mother). They were of about the same age. Can't find anything to give me hint yet as to yea or nay. I'm leaning toward John Hockenbury's parents as Peter & Eve, but I can't prove/nail it down, so this could also possibly Anna's parents... grandparents of George. Only a "possibility" though. But, here's some more facts! In Jun 1880, in Bethlehem, Hunterdon county, is found George & his family. He's listed as Geo. B. Crotsley (correct spelling!!), age 46, a Farmer, born NJ/parents NJ. His wife Rebecca, age 40, born NJ/father NJ/mother Canada. They had children John W age 18, David A age 17, Sarah E age 15 & son William C, age 6. With George & Rebecca, was a "boarder". None other, than John Hockenbury, age 73, widowed, working on the farm, born NJ/parents NJ, could not read/write. John Hockenbury was the one mentioned above, of whom was married to George's Aunt Catherine Crotsley. Catherine had died in Jun 1878 and John was residing with his nephew. John died in Nov 1882. I do not know at the moment of whom were the parents of George's father John Crotsley & his sister Catherine... maybe, hopefully, one day. In the mean time, at least, there is this much figured out. Maybe one day we'll know more about George B. Crotsley, of his life & his past, his ancestral roots and heritage.
