George Bossman, Sr., was born Apr. 3, 1855 in Holthusen, Amt Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany. At the age of 12 years he came with his parents to America, in 1867, taking six weeks to make the voyage and landing in New York after a stormy ocean trip. On June 5 the family arrived at Freeport, IL. where they resided for three years. They then moved Ackley, IA. where Mr Bossman grew to manhood and continued his residence until his marriage in 1881. Like many young ambitious men of his day his dream was to go west to Dakota territory and take up a homestead. So, in 1880 Mr. Bossman was on his way to Dakota land. He came to Lennox and located on a homestead two miles southwest of this city. The following year he returned to Iowa and was united in marriage to Fannie Sinning, Feb. 17, 1881. In the spring of 1881 the couple took up their residence on the homestead near Lennox and began a successful career of homemaking in this then new country. They took an active part in the development of this section. Mr. Bossman was one of the organizers of the Evenezer Presbyterian church in Lennox and was the last surviving charter member of the congregation. He retired from the farm and moved to Lennox in 1919. Here he continued his residence until his death Jun. 7, 1937. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bossman. Those surviving are: Jerry G., Ralph, Eggle, George, Mrs. L. L. Bultena, Mrs. Albert Loats and Mrs. Louie Albers.
