Description	:	Gertie was born to Jurjen and Swaantze (Geersema) Bossman. Gertie married John Geersema on Jul 3, 1870 in Ackley, IA. They had 7 children; Swantje, Maggie, Jerry, John, Dino, Ralph J. and George J. Gertie attained the age of 93 years, 9 months and 19 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Mr. and Mrs. John Geersema settled on their farm seven miles southwest of Lennox in 1884. Mr. and Mrs. John Geersema settled on their farm seven miles southwest of Lennox in 1884. Although Mr. Geersema passed away February 21, 1917 at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 20 days, Mrs. Geersema still resides in Lennox—one of the elderly pioneers ranked as a nonagenarian. She is in her 92nd year. Mr. Geersema was born at Wiemer, Germany, October 3, 1937. He grew to manhood in his native land and in 1867 his family immigrated to the United States, residing first in Illinois and from there moving to Ackley, IA. Mrs. Geersema was also born in Wiemer, Germany—on December 5, 1847—nee Gertie Bossman. When she was 20 years old her parents came to the United States, settling in Illinois (1867). They lived there for nearly three years and then also immigrated westward to the Hawkeye state, settling at Ackley. She was married to John Geersema there July 3, 1879 and the family remained in that Iowa vicinity for 14 years—until coming to Dakota Territory in 1884. The pioneer couple continued their farming enterprise here until 1913 when they retired and moved to Lennox. Eleven children were born to this couple. Four presently survive, namely: Mrs. John Kuper o Montrose (S. D.) ; Mrs. Harm Hyronimus of Worthing (S. D.); Ralph Geersema of Davis (S. D.), and Jerry Geersema of Lennox. Five children passed away in infancy, one at 16, and George Geersema several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Geersema were among the early members of the Turner county First Presbyterian church, and were affiliated with that congregation a number of years.
