She married 29 May 1891, Bonaparte, IA, George Bruce McComb, born 20 Mar 1872, Bonaparte, IA; died 4 Jun 1955, Red Bluff, CA. Although Belle, as she became known, was unable to partake in higher education, she was well read and had a fervent interest in the value of education. Her father was a school teacher and a farmer and her mother came from families that were highly educated for their time. They first lived on a farm with George's mother, which he farmed for her and for which he paid her, as his father had died when he was 4 years old. His mother remarried a Mr McCain and Belle and George farmed for themselves. Music was a hobby of George's from boyhood and he helped organize several bands in that section of Iowa. Among those that he was a member of was the Tehama County Band which has played annually at the State Fair in Sacramento since he helped initiate it in 1948. Their children each took up an instrument when old enough, and every evening the strains from the music of popular composers of the day could be heard emanating from the front room of the McComb farm. Belle played the organ and George the coronet and tuba. Belle had a sincere love and intense interest in people and they responded in kind. Her cousin, Betty Craig Halligan, wrote that Belle was the kindest person she ever knew. She was the focal point of her family after the death of her father and her mother, often stayed with Belle and her family on their farm. She visited her daughter, Marie in California twice. Otherwise, most of her correspondence was by letter which was an average of at least one letter a week. There were frequent postcards to the grandchildren which was quite an event to receive. Belle and George spent the winter of 1936-1937 with their daughter Marie and family, as the Iowa winters were very cold. That winter was the coldest winter in 100 years at Red Bluff, CA with a total of 18 inches of snow. It was a memorable Christmas for the Lingenfelter children as four of their grandparents were present, Belle and George McComb and John and Lucy Lingenfelter. Following is the issue of Belle and George: 1) Robert Bruce b 18 Dec 1891 2) Marie Finette b 5 Nov 18943) Harold Craig b 6 Oct 1906 4) Helen Carita b 11 Nov 1909 He was united in marriage with Lena Belle Rockefeller on May 29, 1891, and to this union four children were born: Robert Bruce of Spokane, Wash., Marie Finette Lingenfelter, of Red Bluff, Calif., Harold Craig, of Columbia, Mo., and Helen Carita, now Mrs. Rollo White of Bonaparte, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 24, 1938, and by a great-grandson, David Allen Lingenfelter, on May 12, 1954. Besides the four children, he is survived by thirteen grandchildren, and by twenty great-grandchildren. The deceased spent the greater part of his life on the farm in Harrisburg Township. Since 1942 he had lived for most of the time in Red Bluff, Calif. Music was his lifetime interest and avocation. Even during his residence in California, he was an active and faithful member of the Tehama County Band. He was a member of Bonaparte Lodge No. 73, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and of Lafayette Chapter No. 61, Royal Arch Masons. Funeral services were held at the Harrisburg Baptist at 2 p.m., Friday in charge of Rev. Dallas Roark. Music was by Dorothy Huff, Rhea Brombaugh and Glenna Stecker. Pallbearers were W. B. Tade, Ralph Dodds, Bruce R. Vale, Donald McDowell, Roy E. Pickard and Stanley Miller. Mrs. Ralph Dodds and Mrs. Donald McDowell were in charge of the flowers. Burial was in Vale cemetery.
