The Odebolt Chronicle - Thursday , November 11th, 1920 - George Buettner, another of the pioneer residents of this community was called from this life at his home on North Main street at six fifteen o'clock Friday evening. Mr. Buettner has been in failing health for several years past, but was confined to his bed only since Tuesday of the week that he died. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at two o'clock, on Monday afternoon, with Dr. T.A. Ambler, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducting the service. Interment was made in the Odebolt cemetery by the side of his wife. The pall bearers were - Alvin Hausmann, Alfred and Ralph Rabe, Emil Huebner, Louie Hausmann and Fred Miller, all nephews of Mr. Buettner. George Buettner was born in Suerth, Bavaria, Germany, July 17, 1847, and at the time of his death was in his seventy-fourth year. He came when a child of eleven in 1855, to the United States, living at Mendota, IL., until 1876, when he came to Sac county and this township, and has resided in this community ever since that time. July 14, 1886, Mr. Buettner was united in marriage with Mrs. Katherine Hausmann Griese, who preceded her husband to the better world, passing away July 19, 1914. Mr. Buettner was a man of fine character and worthy of the respect and esteem in which he was held by a large circle of friends. He endured the hardships of the pioneer days of this locality, along with the many others, and lived to see the great change that has come with the years. He was quiet and retiring by nature, but was true to his friends, and his family. He was the father of four children: Charles of Armour, S.D., William and Lucile of Odebolt, and Louie, who died in infancy. Besides the three children mentioned, he leaves two stepsons, Henry Griese of Baker, Mont., and Edward of this state. He also leaves two grandchildren, Wayne and Phyllis Buettner; and two sisters, Mrs. Rosina Bauer of West Liberty, IL., and Mrs. Dora Miller of Compton, IL. Relatives from out of town who were here for the funeral were the son Charles of Armour; the sister, Mrs. Miller and five nieces, Mrs. Emma Chaon of Compton, Mrs. Mary Bauer of West Brooklyn township, Mrs. Kate Banfau of Mendota, and Mrs. Alma Eichler of Compton and Mrs. Mary Leva of West Brooklyn. Charles Hausmann and wife of Arthur and Louis Hausmann of Wall Lake. The Chronicle extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved.
