Description	:	George Burkhart was born in Austria-Germany, March 14, 1863. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Kyriss near Creighton, June 25, 1935, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 11 days. Mr. Burkhart came to the United States, reaching Niobrara, Nebr., October 1879. There he worked in a packing house and on farms in that vicinity for seven years. Read More	George Burkhart was born in Austria-Germany, March 14, 1863. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Kyriss near Creighton, June 25, 1935, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 11 days. Mr. Burkhart came to the United States, reaching Niobrara, Nebr., October 1879. There he worked in a packing house and on farms in that vicinity for seven years. In 1872, he took up a homestead fourteen miles west of Creighton, building a small shack for his wife and child and saved all he could earn to improve his place, planting trees and putting the land under cultivation. He later accumulated more land and raised considerable livestock, being successful in his undertakings. He was among the hard working pioneers of this community and passed through many hardships and discouragements. In 1917, Mr. Burkhardt retired from the farm and moved into town. This has been his home up to the time of his death. The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kurka at Niobrara, June 12, 1887. Three children were born to this union. Mrs. Burkhart died, August 4, 1903. He married again to Miss Jennie Kurka, February 14, 1919. She passed away, September 29, 1932. His three surviving daughters are Lena Kyriss, Rose Gabler and Mrs. Charles Montgomery, all of this vicinity, besides ten grandchildren and one sister, Mary Hoffman of Pierce, Nebr. Mr. Burkhart lived an honorable life. Those who knew him as a friend or in business circles respected him for his manly character and good business judgement. The last rites were held, Saturday morning from the Adolph Kyriss home west of town to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10:30. Rev. George Obermeyer had charge of the service and preached the sermon. The funeral cortege was one of the largest held in this city for sometime. The floral tributes were symbols of friendship which conveyed more than words. The body was taken to its last resting place in Greenwood Cemetery.
