Yes, death's call was sudden and it took from the family a loving husband and father, from the friends and community a loyal and highly esteemed citizen. Mr Burnside was down on the streets Thursday afternoon and started home from the store of J.S. Banes at about half-past one o'clock. When in front of I.S. Keys' buggy room he was taken sick and leaned up against the building. Just then Cyrus Frame came along and asked the old gentleman what the trouble was and received the reply, "I am awful sick." Mr Keys then assisted the helpless man into the store while Mr Frame went after a doctor. Mr Burnside sank to the floor soon after entering the store and was carried to the rear of the building and laid on one of the counters near the stove, where he died within fifteen minutes in spite of all that the doctor and willing hands could do. The remains of him, who but a few minutes before had left the happy home in the best of health, were taken to the residence and a sad scene was that when the wife, heart-broken by the terrible news, looked upon the cold and lifeless body of her loving companion. The funeral services were held from the M.E. church Saturday forenoon, conducted by Rev Dudley, and the remains were interred at the North Grove cemetery. Deceased was born in Scotland March 8, 1833, was married to Elizabeth Bryson December 13, 1855, they moved from Scotland to Page county, Iowa, in 1868 and to Villisca in 1899. To Mr and Mrs Burnside were born ten children, six of whom are left to cheer their mother in her old age. Mr Burnside was raised a Christian and he remained as such until the end.
