He spent his life in active and progressive business pursuits in Kentucky, Missouri and in Montana. His first trip to this state was in 1864, when he came to provide a home for his loved ones. After returning to his family in Kentucky for a couple of years, he again came to this state and in the course of events settled at the old family home near this place and where with his family he resided until a few years ago, when he sold his farm in order to take life's requirements a little easier. Mr. McFadden was of a modest retiring nature, with strong convictions of right and wrong. Although caring little for society, he loved his home circle and the companionship of friends. He reached a ripe old age and be it said to his credit, he never forgot to practice the splendid lessons of south-hospitality achieved where the palmetto spreads its branches and where the sweet voice of the song bird has cessation. Death came to him at about 7:00 o'clock on Monday evening, Jan. 24. He was buried Wednesday from the family home in Townsend, Rev. Vaughn of the S. Methodist church of Helena, officiating. His remains found their last resting place in the Centerville cemetery, being followed there by a large concourse of neighbors and friends. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters and one son, Mesdames Willcox and Van Voast of this place and George McFadden of Fish Trap, Mont. Two sons were buried in the East many years ago and a daughter, Mrs. H. Berg was buried a few months ago at Spokane, Wash. Mrs. McFadden preceded him to the grave about two years ago. ~~ George C.
