He was the eldest of three sons born to Levi and Mary Casselman. He came with his parents to Kansas in 1878, and here on a farm six miles east of Glasco, he grew to manhood, sharing the hardships of pioneer days. At the age of sixteen years he was converted and united with the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church. He took an active part in church and Sunday school, serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School and President of the Epworth League for many years. He was united in marriage October 7, 1894, to Zora L. Everley. To this union were born two sons, Floyd W. of Denver, Colorado; and Melvin H. of Morris, Oklahoma, and two daughters, Mary Olive, who preceded him in death and Martha L. of the home. In 1909 he entered the ministry and became an ordained elder of the Northwest Kansas Conference. Because of ill health, he was located at his request and moved to Boyton, Oklahoma. Here, while engaged at farming, he did envangelistic work, and the fine Christian community, Liberty, stands as a monument marking his successful efforts in his chosen work. He was a community builder; an uplifter; a steadfast worker; giving freely of his time and generous in his contributions to every good cause. He belonged to the Sons of Veteran camp at Delphos, Kansas many years. He joined the order of the Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 1590, Glasco, and remained a faithful member until death. He was a devoted husband, a kind father, a faithful friend, rejoicing in his last moments in the Christian faith he held so dear. He also leaves two brothers, A. Casselman of Morris, Oklahoma; John Casselman of Wasta, South Dakota; a half-sister, Rose Bellows, of Wenatchee, Washington, and a half-brother, Sewell Cook of Oklahoma; and a host of friends in Kansas and Oklahoma who will cherish his memory.
