Read More	Colfax Gazette, Colfax, Washington February 12, 1904 GEORGE COMEGYS DEAD George Comegys, one of the pioneer business men of Whitman couty, died Sunday at his home eight miles southwest of Oakesdale of paralysis, aged 66 years. Mr. Comegys has been in declining health for some time and his death was not unexpected. George Comegys was born in Missouri in 1838 and crossed the plains to Oregon with his father and brother when he was 12 years old. He graduated from the Willamette university with the degree of B. S. Later he studied law and was admitted to the bar and practiced until 1878, at which time he moved to Whitman county and took a homestead, where he lived until 1887, in which year he moved to Oakesdale. He combined the practice of law with the real estate business until 1891, when the Commercial State Bank of Oakesdale was organized and he became its president. He acted in that capacity until about three years ago, when failing health compelled him to retire. In 1881 he was elected to the territorial legislature and was a member of the convention which drafted the state constitution. In the Willamette valley in 1863, he married Miss E. Stewart, who died in 1865, leaving one daughter, Hattie, who is now the wife of S. J. Daniels of Idaho. In 1873 he was married to Miss Margaret A. Ball, a native of Oregon, who, with three children, Ralph, Horace and Claude, survive him. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Odd Fellows' hall in Oakesdale and was attended by friends from all over the county. A large number went from Colfax to pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased.
