The old gentleman was quite well known to many of our readers, owning a farm a number of miles north of Corning. The body will be sent to the home at once. As yet arrangements for the funeral have not been completed. The deceased gentleman is survived by his wife, six sons, and five daughters. The sons are: Tom, George Jr., Joseph, Eugene, Henry, John. Tom lives in Nebraska and Eugene is with the soldiers at Brownsville, Texas. The other sons live in this immediate vicinity. The daughters are Mrs. John Anstey, Mrs. Frank Clinton, Katie, Martha, and Bertha. Mr. Cruise's life would make a very interesting story, if written out. When a young man he was in the gold fields of Australia and in coming from there he walked nearly across on portion of the island carrying in a belt around his waist enough gold to amount to a thousand English pounds sterling. The belt cut creases in his body that lasted for years. He went to Ireland and was married, starting on the return trip to Australia, via America. On arriving in Iowa for a visit with his brother, Arthur, he became so enamored with this country that he decided to stay here. His recent experience in batching it for a number of years in the west, while his family lived in this community, demonstrates the kind of stuff he had in him. Not many men of his age thought of such a thing.
