Description	:	George 'Dave' Parli, 90, of Albion, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward. A private family service will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 p.m. for friends at the Casey's Building at the Albion Fairgrounds. George (he preferred Dave) was the son of Lew and Susan (Trotter) Parli and was born on February 1, 1931 at Pawnee City, NE. He attended school in Pawnee City through the 11th grade. After his father was injured, he left school to help care for his mother, two younger sisters, and brother. Dave began driving truck for the rock quarry at the age of 16. Shortly thereafter, he left home and after 'stretching the truth' he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Texas. This adventure was short lived, as his mother tracked him down and after a discussion with his commander, Dave was ordered to write a letter of apology to her and was honorably discharged and returned to Pawnee City. Wonder lust struck again and when Dave turned of age, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country from 1950-1954. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War with the 79th Air and Sea Rescue squadron as an airplane mechanic. After his discharge back to the states, Dave visited the Albion Skating Rink where he met a blonde, country girl and decided at first glance that he was going to marry her. Dave and Norma Jean Rave were united in marriage in Lincoln, NE on January 5, 1955. They were blessed to have 64 years together. Dave began a lifelong career with the telephone company working in Columbus, Madison, Newman Grove, and eventually settling in Albion to raise their family. He began as a lineman and fulfilled his career as a supervisor taking early retirement in 1987. During this period, Dave also attained his GED in 1975. Upon retirement, Dave and Norma spent 28 years in Pharr, Texas and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Mexico. In 2014, Dave's health started to fail and they returned home to Albion. Throughout the years, Dave drove truck for Wiegand Trucking, Gray Trucking, as well as many others. Dave was a lifetime member of the Manderson Lehr American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736 in Albion. He was also a member of the Albion Airport Authority. He joined the Albion Fire and Rescue Department and was a member of the first EMT class in Albion. He along with a few others built the first ambulance using a station wagon. Over the years, Dave was an EMT instructor and served as Assistant Chief. He was an avid racecar driver at area tracks and was actively involved in the community. Dave loved spending time outdoors which included hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles, and golf. As an avid tinkerer, there was nothing he could not tear apart and repair. He is survived by his children, Jenice (Tom) Stevenson of Albion, Scott Parli and Belinda Meysenburg of Albion, and Gwen Greger and Tim Dickey of Belgrade; six grandchildren, Justin (Michelle) Stevenson, Adam (Sara) Stevenson, Cody (Dawn) Stevenson, Tasha (Ty) Bopp, Jean (Ryan) Cornwell, and D.J. Greger; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene (Larry) Viterna; sister-in-Law, Darleen Schumuecker; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his parents; sister, Mary Lou (Marion) Gertsch; brother, Dan Parli; son-in-Law, Dan Greger; brother-in-Law, Don Schumuecker; and niece, Jamelyn Viterna.
