Description	:	George Dwight VanNest was born in Albany, Illinois, October 26th, 1843 and departed this life September 12th, 1907, at the age of 63 years, 11 nio, and 14 days. At the age of 19 years he enlisted in the army in 1862 and was mustered out of service at Louisville, Kentucky in 1865. He was married to Miss Margaret E. Nicewonger at Garden Plain, Illinois, April 8th, 1874. The deceased is survived by this I devoted wife three sons, two daughters, and several brothers and sisters in Illinois. Read More	George Dwight VanNest was born in Albany, Illinois, October 26th, 1843 and departed this life September 12th, 1907, at the age of 63 years, 11 nio, and 14 days. At the age of 19 years he enlisted in the army in 1862 and was mustered out of service at Louisville, Kentucky in 1865. He was married to Miss Margaret E. Nicewonger at Garden Plain, Illinois, April 8th, 1874. The deceased is survived by this I devoted wife three sons, two daughters, and several brothers and sisters in Illinois. In 1880 Mr. VanNest and family moved to Laurel, Iowa, where he engaged in the grain business until he moved to Chapin in 1890, and purchased the hardware stock which he recently sold. During his residence of seventeen years in this place he has proved himself an honest upright citizen, always trustworthy and one of the best of friends and neighbors. He was a faithful, consistent member of the Congregational church and and for several years acted as chorister of the choir. The funeral services were held from the home last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by J. W. Thompson. Interment in the Hampton cemetery. Hanson, May 1999; Library of congress Catalog Card # 99-72072 "George VanNest, drummer and soldier in the 93rd Reg., Ill. Volunteer Infantry. He was the son of one of Albany's earliest settlers, Peter and Nancy Olds VanNest. He entered service at age 18. He marched with Sherman on the route to the sea and trough the Carolinas. He served through out the war and participated in the Grand Review at Washington. After his discharge, he moved to Laurel, Marshall Co., Iowa.: Pg. 176 Nancy Walker Connected through the Olds family.
