Read More	Daily Freeman Journal Monday 2 July 1956 G. E. CARPENTER DIES AT 89 George E. Carpenter, 89, longtime resident of the Stratford community, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday at his home in Stratford. He has been in failing health for several years but more seriously in the past 3 months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist church in Stratford with the Rev. Stanley Peterson officiating and burial will be in the Graceland cemetery at Webster City. The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church in Stratford. George Edward Carpenter, son of Volney and Susan Carpenter, was born Oct. 12, 1866, on a farm near Goldfield. When he was a small child, he moved with his parents to a farm in Warren county, near Indianola and was educated and grew to young manhood in that community. He later moved to Denver, Colo. where he was united in marriage Dec. 3, 1890, to Miss Nora Doyle. On Dec. 3, 1955, the couple observed their 65th wedding anniversary. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter moved to Hamilton county and lived in the Homer and Stratford communities where Mr. Carpenter engaged in carpentry work. For the past 10 years they had made their home in Stratford. He is survived by his wife; three daughter; Mrs. Earl (Mildred) McFarland of Stratford; Mrs. George (Rena) Dally of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Lester (Marie) Thompson of Stratford; five grandchildren, Claire McFarland of Stratford, Mrs. Garnet (Betty) Silvey of Stratford, Berwyn Thompson of Stratford, Beryl Dally of Springfield, Ill., Marvin Dally of Webster City; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. He was baptized in the Christian faith and was a member of the former Christian church at Homer. When the family moved to Stratford, he joined the Baptist church and was active in church work.
