Highland Recorder January 3, 1908 It is with sadness we report the death of one of our citizens, Geo. Ed Jenkins. He was sawing at the mill on the 18th of December and a piece of scantling about three inches wide was caught by the teeth of the saw, and thrown back, striking him on the right side about the short ribs. This stroke forced the ribs against the liver, making an incision three inches long which caused internal hemorrhage. He lived 28 hours from the time he was hurt. He was attended by Dr. Siron, and his sister, Miss Jennie, who is a trained nurse. His remains were buried at McKendree church. He left a wife and three small children, who have moved to her father's, Henry Armstrong. George had many friends and was liked by all who knew him. It was a great shock to the community and we can hardly realize he has gone. Highland Recorder February 19, 1908 The sawmill, which has not been in operation since the death of George Ed Jenkins, is now in full blast. Lots of logs are hauled to the mill daily. Highland Recorder April 17, 1908 Administrator's Sale I will sell at public auction, on SATURDAY, MAY 2, 1908 at McDowell, Va., the following property ... Some blacksmith tools ... Geiser portable engine and saw mill, 1 good inserted tooth 56 inch circular saw, belonging to the late firm of Jenkins & Revercomb. This sawing outfit is in good running condition and has not been in use but a short time and will cut six or seven thousand feet of lumber per day. I consider this the best outfit in the county. J.
