Description	:	George E. Scribner, son of Franklin Scribner was born in Holderness December 7, 1863 and died August 23, 1916 was president of the Ashland Knitting Co. for 30, years. He was a manufacturer, Hiram Hodgdon associates with him in 1886 and was instrumental in bringing Canadian families to Ashland in a box car to work in the factory. Scribner, son of Franklin Scribner was born in Holderness December 7, 1863 and died August 23, 1916 was president of the Ashland Knitting Co. for 30, years. George Edwin, the only son and third and youngest child of Franklin and Marcia, was born December 7, 1863, at Ashland. He was educated in the common schools of his native town, graduated from the Tilton Seminary in 1883, and afterward took a commercial course at the New Hampton Institute, this state. After competing his education he entered the employ of the Ashland Savings Bank. In 1886 he helped organize the Ashland Knitting Company, taking the office of treasurer, which he has held ever since. He also had stock in the Kusumpe Lumber Company. Mr. Scribner was a Republican in politics, and was Representative to the New Hampshire Legislature in 1907. He was a member of Mount Prospect Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, of Ashland, and a member of Pilgrim Commandery, Knights Templar, of Laconia. On June 1, 1897, George married Emma H. Mead, daughter of Edward Hilton and Loanna Stevens (Sherburne) Mead, of Northwood, where she was born November 28, 1863. They had no children. George and Emma were married by A.B. Meservey, Clergyman of New Hampton. George and Emma brought the former William P. Drake house. Mrs. Scribner's Will, dated January 29, 1935, deeded the property to the Town of Ashland. Today, as Emma wished, it is the Ashland Town Library, which sits on the corner of Main and Pleasant Street in Ashland.
